Study

The main elements of the department's study programme are the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in physics. The Master's programme is available in a basic-oriented branch leading to a Master's degree in physics. Furthermore, there are the degree programmes in physics for the teaching profession at secondary schools (LaG) and Master of Education physics (teaching profession at vocational schools).

Research

The research activities of the department are grouped in three institutes, each of which comprises groups working in both experimental and theoretical fields. In this way, a broad spectrum of topics is covered, ranging from nuclear and astrophysics to modern optics and photonics to condensed matter physics.

Directory of Professors

TURM

Join us at the astronomical observatory of the Department of Physics! The TURM Observatory consists of several remote telescope systems in Darmstadt and in the south of Spain. We observe everything that is going on in the sky – from the Sun to exoplanets to distant galaxies. The instruments are used by our students for lab courses, project work, and outreach activities.
