The academic year at Technische Universität Darmstadt consists of two terms (Semester). Regularly an academic year starts with the Wintersemester (winter term) beginning at October 1st. As an international student you may also start in Sommersemester (summer term) starting at April 1st.
The lectures typically start 10 to 15 days after the official beginning of the term. The lecture period spans over approx. 13-15 weeks. Typically shortly after the end of lectures you will write your exams. In physics we do not have mid-term exams. In advanced classes you can usually arrange for an individual appointment for your oral exam with the professor.
